Microsoft Cyber Defense shores up quality with in-app workflow testing

Microsoft Cyber Defense at Microsoft was struggling with unsustainable manual testing for its Defender ATP product, with daily code check-ins but little deployment automation and mostly sanity-check testing. Microsoft needed a way to add functional end-to-end coverage and regression testing without spending too much time building tests for existing functionality, and it chose Tricentis Testim.

Tricentis implemented Testim for automated functional and in-app workflow testing, onboarding about 35 developers in a six-hour workshop that produced 120 tests, including 80 in-app workflow tests. Microsoft integrated Tricentis Testim into Azure pipelines at pull request, pre-deployment, release, post-deployment, and nightly gates, helping identify more bugs, speed troubleshooting, and support near-continuous testing; stable tests were created in about 20 minutes on average.
