Duke delivers on transforming customer experience with move to SAP S/4HANA

Duke Energy needed to modernize customer experience by consolidating four legacy billing systems serving more than 7 million customers across multiple states, while moving to SAP S/4HANA and managing a complex greenfield transformation. Its manual testing approach was too slow and risky for the scale of the project, with legacy regression testing estimated at 1,300 hours and potential delays to weekly SAP releases.

Tricentis implemented Tricentis Tosca model-based test automation to cover key SAP areas and build a risk-based regression suite of 150 test cases, later expanding to 250 automated tests per week. The result was faster, unattended overnight testing completed in under 12 hours, earlier defect detection, and weekly testing time cut from 1,200–1,300 hours to about 32 hours. Duke also reported $4.3 million in annual resource savings, 11 defects caught before production, and a go-live seven months ahead of schedule.
