Teams up with Trend Micro to launch Hong Kong’s first all-in-one home gateway

HKBN, Hong Kong’s second-largest provider of residential fibre broadband with coverage to over 2.3 million homes, sought to raise the security and manageability of home networks as smart devices proliferated. With Hong Kong ranking among the world’s most targeted regions for hacking (nearly 1 million attacks recorded in September 2018) and IoT devices increasingly vulnerable, HKBN needed a security partner to protect customers now and into the future.

HKBN teamed with Trend Micro to launch Hong Kong’s first all‑in‑one Home Gateway — combining 2Gbps fibre, Wi‑Fi, telephone, parental controls and embedded Trend Micro Smart Home Network security (HKBN HomeGuard). The gateway uses deep packet inspection and a three‑tier protection model to detect, analyze and block malicious activity and unsafe websites, with regular threat updates. The solution eased development, launched on November 29, 2018, and delivered enterprise‑level network protection for homes, improving customer security and satisfaction.
