A Trend Micro Case Study
Integra Networks, an Ottawa-based IT services firm with 30 years’ experience and a strong focus on virtualization, helps federal and municipal agencies and other organizations adopt VMware-based private clouds. As clients rapidly spin up and tear down virtual machines, Integra faced challenges with traditional agent-based security: instant‑on gaps, resource contention from simultaneous scans and updates, difficulty maintaining auditable compliance records, and the need to limit lateral attack movement — problems that required educating customers and adopting a virtualization‑friendly security approach.
Integra implemented Trend Micro Deep Security (agentless) tightly integrated with VMware and VMware NSX, using a security virtual appliance and a lightweight VM driver to offload protection, serialize scans, and provide centralized policy, logging, and compliance visibility. The solution simplified deployment and maintenance, enabled Day‑1 protection for new VMs, improved performance and server consolidation ratios, reduced the data‑center attack surface through micro‑segmentation, and strengthened Integra’s position as a leading virtualization security provider.
