A Trend Micro Case Study
Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs acute and urgent care services in Wiltshire including the Great Western Hospital in Swindon, cares for tens of thousands of patients each year and supports about 6,000 users across 300+ mainly virtualised VMware servers. Facing heightened ransomware and phishing risk for healthcare, legacy Windows servers that are hard to patch, and strict NHS requirements to show monthly vulnerability mitigation, the Trust needed stronger, proactive protection after WannaCry highlighted the sector’s exposure.
After a successful proof of concept, the Trust deployed Trend Micro Deep Security for servers and Apex One for endpoints to deliver vulnerability shielding, intrusion prevention, virtual patching and real‑time threat blocking. The solutions protected critical and legacy systems (including against Log4J), reduced audit findings by mitigating risks before vendor patches were available, minimized operational impact during incidents, and gave the IT team time and confidence to plan upgrades on their own schedule.
