Fisheries and Marine Institute at Memorial University of Newfoundland Safeguards Research Data with Trend Micro

The Fisheries and Marine Institute at Memorial University of Newfoundland is North America’s most comprehensive institute for oceans education, research and industry support. After virtualizing its servers, the institute faced the challenge of protecting irreplaceable research data, network-attached storage (NAS), and thousands of student and faculty endpoints while preserving an open, shareable research environment.

To address this, IT implemented Trend Micro Deep Security for the virtual infrastructure and later deployed Trend Micro Smart Protection Suite across endpoints, the web proxy for NAS, and email servers. The result was consolidated, layered protection with centralized reporting and automated remediation, a sharp reduction in threats reaching the firewall, and improved overall IT performance and confidence in data security.
