Aziende Industriali di Lugano (AIL) SA locks down their utility grids and IT networks with Trend Micro

Aziende Industriali di Lugano (AIL) SA is a Swiss utilities company serving more than 110,000 customers across 56 municipalities in Ticino, supplying electricity, water, gas and heat. Since 2015 AIL needed a solution that could continuously monitor both its IT networks and its utilities grid to detect threats and enable rapid response; prior products they tested failed to give full visibility into grid-specific protocols and traffic.

Working with partner MTF Info Centro SA, AIL implemented Trend Micro’s Deep Discovery Inspector and Analyzer plus the Enterprise Security Suite, all managed centrally by Trend Micro Control Manager. Trend Micro extended protocol recognition for utilities traffic, delivering full network and endpoint protection and displacing competitors. The new setup detected a vulnerability-based attack immediately, enabling AIL to apply patches within half a day, and now provides centralized management, comprehensive grid and IT protection, and improved incident analysis.
