A Trend Micro Case Study
A&W Food Services of Canada, the country’s original and rapidly growing burger chain with over 850 locations, faced strains from an aging IT infrastructure and an underperforming endpoint security solution that was resource‑intensive, produced unreliable reports and failed to stop multiple infections. At the same time the company needed better SSL management—current certificates were costly and took days to acquire—and planned a move toward virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), which required low‑overhead, agentless protection.
A&W replaced its legacy tools with Trend Micro OfficeScan for lighter, more effective endpoint protection, adopted Deep Security for agentless VDI and data‑center defense supported by the Smart Protection Network, and implemented Trend Micro SSL to quickly issue certificates. The changes improved threat detection and blocking, cut system overhead and administrative effort, stopped incidents such as a CryptoLocker infection, dramatically reduced SSL cost and issuance time (paying for itself in six months), and created a clear roadmap for rolling out additional security modules.
