Case Study: City of Regina improves transit efficiency with Trapeze Group mobile data computers

A Trapeze Group Case Study

Preview of the City of Regina Case Study

Regina Transit is the public transportation agency operated by the city of Regina

City of Regina Transit, the public transportation agency for Regina, Saskatchewan, faced operational inefficiencies in its demand response service, including unreliable radio communications, limited visibility into vehicle locations, and difficulty managing add-on trips and trip exceptions. Trapeze Group’s mobile computing solution, including Mobile Data Computers (MDC, now Treq), was introduced to improve real-time communication and dispatch visibility.

With Trapeze Group’s MDCs and GPS-enabled dispatch tools, Regina Transit gained real-time vehicle tracking, automatic trip updates, and easier reporting and data reconciliation. The result was faster exception handling, better customer service, and measurable gains: weekday ridership increased by 16 percent, passengers per hour rose from 2.96 to 3.0, trips increased by 2,300 in 2007, and vehicle operating hours decreased by 650, saving about $20,000.
