How Wmata Increased their Credibility with Riders Through Real-Time

Washington D.C. Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) needed a more efficient way to manage its large MetroAccess paratransit operation, which had been relying on radio dispatching and manual data entry. The agency wanted an automated scheduling system, better call center efficiency, real-time fleet visibility, and improved driver-dispatch communication. Vendor Trapeze Group provided the PASS platform along with Ranger fixed-mount mobile computers.

Trapeze Group implemented an end-to-end real-time solution using PASS, Mobility software, and Ranger devices to connect drivers and dispatchers and provide accurate trip and vehicle data. After only two months, WMATA could see exactly where vehicles were, respond more quickly to rider questions and complaints, and verify service issues with objective AVL data. The result was greater customer credibility, better trip-status communication, and more reliable information for future service planning.
