How VTA Improved Ridership Data to Secure More Funding

Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) needed a better way to process ridership and passenger-mile data to support accurate reporting and secure future funding. Its in-house Microsoft Access-based system was inefficient, difficult to maintain, and lacked centralized data management and standard validations. VTA turned to Trapeze Group and its APC Gateway product to address these challenges.

Trapeze Group implemented APC Gateway to collect, validate, and load APC data into PLAN, using a proven load-balancing algorithm to resolve inconsistent counts and flag invalid data for review. The results were strong: the algorithm was 98% accurate compared with manually checked data, VTA improved confidence in its ridership and passenger-mile reporting, and the agency is now better able to support funding requests, NTD reporting, and service planning with reliable data.
