A Trapeze Group Case Study
Piedmont Triad Region in North Carolina is a 12-county, 1.6 million-population transit network made up of five agencies—Winston-Salem Transit Authority, High Point Transit System, Guilford County Transportation, Greensboro Transit Authority, and Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation. Before regional coordination, each agency used separate systems, with some relying on manual or outdated scheduling processes, making it difficult to share trip segments, coordinate paratransit service across city borders, and provide consistent traveler information. Trapeze Group was brought in to help the agencies work as a more unified regional system.
Trapeze Group implemented a shared, single-database approach with PASS-CT for demand response, FX for fixed-route scheduling and runcutting, and INFO products for regional traveler information, while allowing each agency to remain independently operated. The result was greatly improved travel within and between Triad cities, better trip coordination, real-time vehicle tracking, electronic driver manifests, and a more customer-friendly and reliable regional transit system. By pooling resources, the agencies were able to fund and deploy technology they could not afford individually, with plans to expand into regional AVL and real-time transit information.
