NUI Galway migrates 1TB of archived email with TransVault, keeping less than 1% failing

NUI Galway, one of Ireland's leading universities, faced the challenge of consolidating two legacy email archives based on Autonomy EAS into a new Microsoft Exchange 2010 environment. The university needed to migrate over 18 million emails to eliminate the overhead of maintaining a separate archive and to provide better services to its 17,000 students and 2,200 staff. They partnered with Essential Computing and used specialized migration software from TransVault to accomplish this.

The solution implemented by TransVault enabled a smooth and highly successful migration. The process achieved a success rate of over 99%, with less than 1% of emails failing to transfer. The software allowed for the resubmission of specific data batches and quickly remedied issues with older, problematic items stored in EAS. As a result, NUI Galway successfully migrated all archived data into Exchange, achieved its storage resilience goals, and eliminated the support overhead of its legacy system.
