Lancaster University boosts student bus use by 25% with TransportAPI

Lancaster University, in partnership with Lancaster City Council and others, faced a challenge after the removal of bus departure boards left the public without a much-needed service. They worked with TransportAPI to leverage its data service to design a replacement digital signage system for Lancaster Bus Station.

Using TransportAPI's data, the university developed a solution that powered both its iLancaster mobile platform and a new LCD departure screen at the bus station. The project was a success, providing the community with real-time travel information. As a result, bus use among university students increased by more than a quarter, and staff usage of public transport rose by 17%.
