Smurfit Kappa - Customer Case Study

Smurfit Kappa, a global paper packaging manufacturer, needed to reduce congestion and improve safety at its Hoya plant in Germany as production expanded. Peak-time truck queues were causing long waiting times for deliveries and dispatches, creating bottlenecks and H&S risks around the loading bays. The company turned to Transporeon Group and its Time Slot Management solution to bring more clarity and control to inbound and outbound truck traffic.

Transporeon Group implemented a digital time-slot booking system that let carriers reserve 30-minute loading and unloading windows, supported by traffic management messages directing drivers to the right bays. The results were significant: 70% of vehicles arrived on time or early, truck turnaround dropped from 120 minutes to 52 minutes, and loading/unloading times fell to 17 minutes. On-site congestion was reduced from about 20 trucks to just 4 or 5, while the solution was also reported as easy to use and well accepted by carriers.
