RTÉ, the national public broadcaster in Ireland, faced the challenge of transitioning from a tape-based to a modern, file-based infrastructure. This move was necessary to enable HD production, serve multiple platforms, and reduce operational costs while maintaining transparency as a public service. They selected the Mediaflex platform from vendor TransMedia Dynamics (TMD) after an open tender process to act as the core asset management and workflow engine for this transformation.

The solution implemented was TMD's Mediaflex, which featured a configurable workflow engine called Mediaflex CI. This allowed RTÉ staff to design and develop their own automated workflows, minimizing manual intervention. A key to success was an initial pilot phase that proved the concept, secured staff buy-in, and provided a lasting environment for testing and training. The measurable results were significant, with the project delivering estimated savings of €350,000 in its first year and €450,000 annually thereafter.
