A TransMedia Dynamics Case Study
The National Film & Sound Archive (NFSA) of Australia needed to replace its legacy collection management system so it could manage both its large analogue holdings and a rapidly growing digital collection. Its existing in-house system worked well for analogue materials, but it was becoming inadequate for digital files, digitisation workflows, rights, loans, and public access needs. NFSA selected TransMedia Dynamics and its Mediaflex media asset management platform to support this transition.
TransMedia Dynamics implemented Mediaflex with extensive enhancements for archival requirements, including acquisitions, loans, rights management, preservation workflows, digitisation integration, metadata harvesting, and support for audio, video, and documentation formats. The result was a single system for analogue and digital content, improved preservation and retrieval processes, better acquisitions tracking, streamlined reporting, and stronger support for public access through Search The Collection. The project took two years and involved migration of more than 500 data fields, leaving NFSA with a scalable platform for its digital future.
