Case Study: Signal achieves secure global localization with Transifex

A Transifex Case Study

Preview of the Signal Case Study

Signal's localization strategy Building a Secure Experience with Transifex

Signal, the open‑source privacy-focused messenger founded in 2014, needed to localize its website, in‑app text and support content for a global audience. Prior reliance on GitHub made it hard to manage shared strings across iOS and Android codebases and lacked features like contextual screenshots and support integrations, creating friction for volunteer translators and engineering teams.

Signal adopted Transifex to better engage volunteers and centralize localization workflows using the CLI, Zendesk integration, API, visual context screenshots, and translation memory. The platform reduced translator questions, sped translations by about 20%, improved sync/error visibility, and enabled Signal to localize the app into 5+ languages in the past three months while benefiting from responsive Transifex support.
