A Transfinder Case Study
Western Beaver County School District, a rural Pennsylvania district transporting all 750 enrolled students, faced declining enrollment, budget cuts, and a bus routing system that had not been adjusted in 30 years. While reviewing service contracts, the district found it had been paying for more school bus runs than were actually taking place.
In 2011, the district used Transfinder’s Routefinder Pro and professional services to implement routes, geocode student addresses, and review bus activity for savings. Transfinder helped create three routing scenarios, including one that eliminated four buses and added a van for seven students in a remote area, and the district chose the option with the greatest savings. The new routes were implemented the following school year, resulting in a smooth transition, a safer and more efficient system, and thousands of dollars in savings.
