RSU 54, a mostly rural district in Skowhegan, Maine, transports about 2,000 of its 2,700 students each day to eight in-district schools and several out-of-district schools. In 2009, the district began looking for a student routing and transportation management system and implemented Transfinder’s Routefinder Pro.

Using Transfinder’s Routefinder Pro, Transportation Specialist Ann Barriault mapped routes visually, found overlaps, and adjusted stops and student assignments to improve efficiency. The changes eliminated an entire bus and produced more than $80,000 in savings, while daily mileage dropped from 929 regular education miles and 305 special education miles to 805 and 259 miles, respectively.
