Coxsackie-Athens CSD Logs Savings of $75,000 in Transportation Budget

Coxsackie-Athens Central School District, a rural district south of Albany, New York, was still using a paper-based approach to route buses and manage student transportation when Ted Nugent became transportation supervisor in 2007. Rising diesel fuel costs had already forced the district to add $30,000 to its transportation budget, and Nugent looked for a way to control expenses while improving routing.

Using Transfinder’s Routefinder Pro, Nugent reviewed the district’s routes and consolidated bus mileage from about 272,500 miles to 222,000 miles, saving 50,500 miles of diesel fuel and nearly $75,000 in transportation costs. The software also helped reduce elementary routes from 16 to 12 and increase contractor bus capacity from about 60 percent to more than 90 percent, allowing the district to keep field trips and athletic team trips in place.
