Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation - Customer Case Study

Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation, a nuclear power plant serving Kansas and Missouri, needed a fast way to provide cooling for a small portion of a cooling water system serving potentially radioactive components. Because of the safety-sensitive design and urgent timeline, a new system or major redesign was not practical, so the plant turned to Trane Commercial for a rental cooling solution.

Trane Commercial recommended an 80-ton air-cooled rental chiller (RTAA) and a generator to ensure continuous operation, while also fitting the system into the existing piping and maintaining strict safety controls. Trane Commercial engineers completed the installation within the required timeframe, allowing Wolf Creek to keep normal operations running safely and reliably, with the rental equipment providing secure cooling for the plant’s cooling water system.
