White Castle Restaurants, the fast-food hamburger chain with 380 locations across the United States, needed a better way to handle kitchen exhaust while still maintaining comfort for customers and employees. Working with Trane Commercial, the company looked for an HVAC approach that could improve temperature and humidity control in its 2,000-square-foot restaurant spaces without driving up energy costs.

Trane Commercial and LC Systems developed the Total Kitchen HVAC™ system and Restaurant Rooftop Unit for White Castle, using a 100% outdoor air design with modulating heating and cooling. The solution required 35% less airflow than older systems and was reported to be up to 25% more economical to operate and maintain, while delivering better comfort and humidity control in the kitchen and dining areas.
