Washington and Lee University - Customer Case Study

Washington and Lee University, a private university in Lexington, Virginia, set ambitious sustainability goals to reduce carbon emissions, lower Btu per square foot, and cut utility costs. To support these targets, the school worked with Trane Commercial to modernize its aging pneumatic controls system across ten major campus buildings without disrupting operations.

Trane Commercial replaced the old controls with a direct digital controls (DDC) system and integrated the buildings into the Trane Tracer ES building automation system. The upgrade improved monitoring, scheduling, troubleshooting, and energy optimization across campus, and was projected to save about $280,000 per year in energy costs while finishing below budget.
