Washburn Tech, a nationally recognized career and technical education school in Topeka, Kansas, needed to modernize its HVAC training program to keep pace with a growing and changing climate control industry. Its labs were filled with outdated equipment, much of it more than 15 years old, and the school wanted a state-of-the-art curriculum that would better prepare students for current industry demands. Trane Commercial helped support the effort, along with updated HVAC training equipment and curriculum focused on commercial systems and building automation controls.

Trane Commercial worked with Washburn Tech to secure grant funding and reduce construction costs through The Cooperative Purchasing Network (TCPN), while also partnering with NC3 to strengthen the curriculum. Trane supplied advanced HVAC technologies for the labs, including rooftop units, furnaces, a variable-air-volume system, simulated boiler and chiller loops, and Trane Tracer Summit building automation systems. The result was a Midwest Training Center with advanced classrooms and working labs that better prepare graduates with the skills, training, and validation needed by industry.
