Vancity cuts natural gas use 95% with Trane Commercial

Vancity, Canada's largest community credit union, faced a challenge when needing to upgrade the aging boiler plant in its head office tower. Committed to sustainability, Vancity wanted to drastically reduce natural gas consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. They turned to their long-time vendor, Trane Commercial, to explore solutions.

Trane Commercial proposed and installed a creative heat reclaim system centered around a Trane Series R Helical Rotary heat reclaim chiller. This system captures waste heat from the building's data centre and reuses it for space heating. The solution reduced the building's natural gas consumption by 95% and cut related greenhouse gas emissions by 75%, also earning an $85,000+ utility rebate. Trane's efficient design provided a projected payback of 4.5 years.
