University of Florida - Customer Case Study

The University of Florida selected Trane Commercial to help modernize the J. Wayne Reitz Union, a facility with aging, mismatched infrastructure and poor energy performance. Facing comfort issues, outdated controls, and expansion needs, the university wanted a performance contracting solution that could improve efficiency while adding capacity.

Trane Commercial delivered a comprehensive energy retrofit using TRACE™ 700 modeling, new building automation controls, LED lighting, upgraded chillers and chiller plants, variable-air-volume air handlers, and other HVAC improvements. The project increased capacity and is projected to exceed guaranteed savings, with annual savings of 3,278,505 kWh of electricity and 13,597 therms of natural gas, plus $414,562 in energy savings, $121,095 in operational savings, a first-year savings of $535,657, and an additional $90,549 received under an energy efficiency structure.
