Sydney Entertainment Center - Customer Case Study

Sydney Entertainment Centre, a 12,500-seat sports and entertainment venue in Sydney, Australia, needed to upgrade its aging HVAC systems to improve comfort, efficiency, and reliability. Trane Commercial was brought in to help modernize the facility, using Trane Series R chillers and a Trane Tracer Summit building automation system.

Trane Commercial took a total-systems approach, replacing the old chillers, converting the chilled water system from primary-only constant volume to variable-primary flow, upgrading the cooling towers, and adding Tracer Summit DDC controls. The result was more than 20% better efficiency and overall chiller plant efficiency greater than 5 COP, helping the Sydney Entertainment Centre reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions while earning the Energy Smart Green Global Gold Medal in 2002.
