Sun Life Financial Center lowers greenhouse gas emissions 2.5% with Trane Commercial

Bentall Kennedy, managing the Sun Life Financial Center, faced a need to replace end-of-life cooling equipment across its two-tower complex. Their challenge was to improve overall system efficiency, ensure sustainability, and find a solution with a positive financial return, rather than simply opting for a like-for-like replacement of the aging chillers.

The solution implemented by Trane Commercial involved a comprehensive upgrade to a variable-primary flow system featuring Trane CenTraVac centrifugal chillers equipped with heat recovery and Adaptive Frequency Drives. As a result, the building achieved increased operational redundancy, reduced operating costs, and lowered greenhouse gas emissions by 2.5 percent. The project also earned an energy efficiency incentive exceeding $536,000, validating the high performance of the Trane system.
