Sibley Textile Mill - Customer Case Study

Sibley Textile Mill, repurposed as a new data center in Augusta, Georgia, needed a reliable way to meet rapidly growing computing demand while minimizing environmental impact and preserving a historic site. Trane Commercial worked with the developer to evaluate using the Augusta Canal for cooling and hydropower, while also addressing redundancy, efficiency, and comfort needs for the facility.

Trane Commercial designed a system centered on canal-water cooling with backup mechanical cooling, Trane CenTraVac centrifugal water-cooled chillers, custom Performance Climate Changer air handlers, and Tracer Ensemble building management controls. The solution enables free cooling much of the year and is expected to deliver a PUE of 1.13 to 1.15, with the data center projected to use roughly one-third of the energy of a typical like-kind facility, lowering operating costs and environmental impact.
