Robins Air Force Base - Customer Case Study

Robins Air Force Base, the home of Warner Robins Air Logistics Complex and more than 60 other units, needed to improve lighting levels in multiple hangars and support facilities while also reducing energy costs across about 500,000 square feet. Trane Commercial was brought in to help the 78th Civil Engineering Squadron address these goals as part of the Air Force Strategic Facility Energy Plan.

Trane Commercial implemented a holistic upgrade that combined daylight harvesting with over 300 active tracking skylights, dimmable fluorescent and Super T8 lighting upgrades, lighting controls, and a geothermal water-source heat pump system using a nearby lake as the heat sink/source. The project improved illumination, supported 24x7 operations, reduced cooling and heating costs, and delivered an ROI of less than 10 years with a savings-to-investment ratio above 2.0, while the geothermal and daylighting systems are expected to last more than 20 years.
