Passavant Area Hospital, serving west central Illinois, wanted to improve energy efficiency, reduce operating costs, and create a better environment of care for patients and staff. Working with vendor Trane Commercial, the hospital used a Trane Physical Environment of Care Assessment to review its facility and identify opportunities for operational and energy improvements.

Trane Commercial implemented chiller plant optimization with Tracer Summit building automation controls, air-handler upgrades with direct digital controls and re-commissioning, and lighting retrofits with energy-efficient fixtures. The project was completed on schedule and is projected to cut annual energy use by 19% and save more than $313,000 per year, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 24%—equivalent to removing 525 cars from the road.
