NorthStar Center cuts electrical consumption nearly 50% with Trane Commercial

The Northstar Center, a multi-building commercial complex with diverse tenants and varying work schedules, faced challenges with its aging chillers. The equipment lacked the capacity to handle increased heat loads and could not efficiently provide zone cooling for tenants on different schedules. Additionally, new environmental regulations required them to stop using a well water system. They worked with Trane Commercial to find a solution involving new chillers.

Trane Commercial implemented a solution by replacing the old chiller with two high-efficiency 800-ton CenTraVac centrifugal chillers. This upgrade provided the flexibility to cool individual floors and significantly improved energy efficiency. The results were substantial, reducing the center's electrical consumption by nearly 50 percent while greatly increasing cooling capacity and tenant satisfaction.
