Newport News Juvenile Secure Detention Center in Newport News, Virginia needed a cost-effective way to restore its aging HVAC system after both compressors in its air-cooled RTAC chiller failed. Trane Commercial proposed its Trane R’newal Service as an alternative to full compressor replacement, helping the facility get the system back online quickly while maintaining comfort for detainees, staff, classrooms, and office spaces.

Trane Commercial restored the compressors to original performance by inspecting and replacing worn components such as gaskets, O-rings, piping, and bearings, and by upgrading the equipment with enhanced designs. The project included a standard two-year parts and labor warranty and factory-authorized inspections. Results included an estimated 20 percent savings on future chiller use, increased energy efficiency, and lower life-cycle costs, with the system running 50 percent more efficiently than before.
