Nebraska Furniture Mart removes 1.6 megawatts from the daytime grid with Trane Commercial

Nebraska Furniture Mart faced the challenge of ensuring customer comfort through low humidity levels while also aiming for significant energy savings and reducing strain on the local power grid at its new Texas store. To address this, they partnered with Trane Commercial to implement an EarthWise Ice-Enhanced Chiller Plant system.

Trane Commercial's solution utilized thermal energy storage, creating ice at night to provide cooling and dehumidification during the day. This approach lowered utility rates by using off-peak electricity and removed 1.6 megawatts of demand from the daytime grid, helping to prevent local brownouts. The system also achieved the customer's primary goal of delivering a comfortable, low-humidity environment for shoppers.
