Nebraska Furniture Mart - Customer Case Study

Nebraska Furniture Mart, working with Trane Commercial, needed a way to keep its new Texas store comfortable for shoppers while also reducing humidity, lowering energy costs, and avoiding extra strain on the local power grid. With the region experiencing rolling brownouts and the facility being one of the largest retail spaces in the world, the customer wanted a solution that balanced comfort, efficiency, and community responsibility.

Trane Commercial delivered an EarthWise™ Ice-Enhanced Chiller Plant using three Trane® CenTraVac™ centrifugal chillers, CALMAC® IceBank® thermal energy storage tanks, and Trane® Tracer™ SC building automation. The system makes ice at night and uses it for daytime cooling, shifting demand to off-peak hours, improving humidity control, and reducing operating costs. The result was lower utility rates and elimination of 1.6 megawatts of afternoon grid demand, helping Nebraska Furniture Mart avoid area brownouts.
