Moody County Courthouse - Customer Case Study

Moody County Courthouse, a 100-year-old historic building in Flandreau, South Dakota, needed to replace aging HVAC equipment that was failing and difficult to control, while preserving the courthouse’s murals, marble, and other architectural details. Trane Commercial was brought in to help modernize the facility with a wireless controls-based HVAC upgrade that would improve reliability, comfort, and efficiency without disturbing the building’s historic character.

Trane Commercial installed a new HVAC package including a split system air-cooled condensing unit with remote heat exchanger, high-efficiency boiler, variable frequency drives, and 45 Trane UniTrane fan-coil units, all tied to Trane Air-Fi wireless controls and a Tracer SC building automation system. The solution improved indoor comfort, simplified remote monitoring and scheduling, and helped reduce energy use and downtime. According to the facility manager, the wireless installation worked seamlessly and the app-based control made managing the courthouse much easier.
