A Trane Commercial Case Study
Miami Marlins, in partnership with Miami-Dade County, needed to create a comfortable, weather-protected ballpark that could attract more fans while also meeting ambitious sustainability goals. The retractable-roof design of Marlins Park made energy efficiency especially challenging, and the project was required to achieve at least LEED Silver certification. Trane Commercial was brought in to help address the facility’s cooling and control needs.
Trane Commercial supplied energy-efficient HVAC equipment and controls for the ballpark, including two 3,200-ton CenTraVac chillers, one 400-ton air-cooled rotary chiller, dehumidification air handling units, variable-air-volume terminal units, and the Trane Tracer Summit building automation system. The solution helped Marlins Park earn LEED Gold certification, the first retractable-roof professional sports facility in the world to do so. The project also achieved measurable sustainability gains, including a 52% reduction in water use, 98% recycled construction waste, and 50.9% recycled building materials content.
