The customer, MC Realty Group LLC, was tasked by building owner VanTrust with improving tenant comfort and building performance at a Kansas City office tower while lowering costs. A significant challenge was that the building's design prevented new, larger air handling units from being moved through doors or elevator shafts, and any solution needed to minimize disruption to tenants. MC Realty brought in vendor Trane Commercial to address this complex issue.

Trane implemented an innovative solution by creating roof access through fresh air shafts to hoist new air handling units, building automation systems, and a condenser water system directly into mechanical rooms. This approach allowed Trane to complete the installation with almost no impact on tenants. The project was a success, cutting the building's annual energy costs by $130,000 and generating a one-time utility rebate of the same amount, while also ensuring reliable comfort for tenants.
