Preview of the Marlins Park Case Study

Marlins Park earns LEED Gold with Trane Commercial HVAC and cuts water use 52%

The Miami Marlins and Miami-Dade County faced the challenge of constructing a new, climate-controlled ballpark that could overcome South Florida's frequent rain and high heat to ensure fan comfort and game reliability, all while meeting ambitious sustainability goals and achieving LEED Silver certification. To address the unique challenge of efficiently cooling a large space with a retractable roof, they turned to Trane Commercial for an energy-efficient HVAC solution.

Trane implemented a comprehensive system featuring two 3,200-ton CenTraVac chillers, a 400-ton rotary chiller, and a Tracer Summit building automation system to precisely control temperature and humidity. This solution helped Marlins Park become the world's first retractable-roof professional sports facility to earn LEED Gold certification. The energy-efficient Trane systems were instrumental in achieving the required credits, and the park also realized a 52% reduction in water use while recycling 98% of its construction waste.
