Long Beach City College - Customer Case Study

Long Beach City College (LBCC), one of the largest districts in the California Community College System, needed to prepare its two campuses for future growth while improving efficiency and redundancy in the central cooling plants. Working with Trane Commercial, the college looked for ways to optimize operations at its Liberal Arts Campus and Pacific Coast Campus, where cooling demand was increasing.

Trane Commercial performed an investment-grade audit using TRACE 700 and implemented energy conservation measures that included a new 900-ton Trane CenTraVac chiller, added cooling tower capacity, upgraded controls, new chilled and condenser water pumps with VFDs, and a LOBOS optimization system. The upgrades delivered more than $135,000 in annual energy savings and helped secure over $270,000 in energy efficiency rebates, while also improving comfort for students and staff.
