A Trane Commercial Case Study
Laughlin Memorial Hospital in Greeneville, Tennessee, needed to modernize aging infrastructure across its four-building medical complex. The hospital was dealing with inefficient and unreliable HVAC equipment, outdated pneumatic controls, high utility costs, and comfort issues that made it difficult for staff to maintain consistent conditions for patients. Trane Commercial was selected as the upgrade partner, with a focus on improving energy efficiency and reducing operating expenses.
Trane Commercial implemented a guaranteed energy savings performance contract that funded upgrades through projected savings. The project included new boilers, two high-efficiency Trane CenTraVac centrifugal chillers, retrofitted air handlers and economizers, more than 500 VAV boxes with direct digital controls, a Trane Tracer Ensemble building management system, and ongoing analytics and 24/7 monitoring services. As a result, Laughlin Memorial Hospital achieved more than $778,800 in first-year savings, earned an ENERGY STAR rating above 90, and lowered maintenance costs while improving indoor air quality and patient comfort.
