A Trane Commercial Case Study
Lakehaven Utility District faced an urgent challenge at its Lakota Wastewater Treatment Plant: aging infrastructure, inefficient and outdated systems, high aeration horsepower requirements, and reliance on chemical-aided treatment to meet permit limits. To address these issues, the district worked with Trane Commercial and considered the State of Washington Design/Build Energy Savings Performance Contracting Program (ESPC) to help finance the needed upgrades.
Trane Commercial proposed and managed a performance contract solution that replaced and optimized the plant’s secondary treatment aeration system while helping Lakehaven Utility District secure financing. The project reduced energy use, lowered operational and maintenance costs, cut chemical costs by 30%, and improved compliance and risk mitigation. In total, the upgrades delivered $850,000 in energy and operational savings and a positive cash flow return in less than a year.
