Kneehill County cuts arena energy costs by 20% with Trane Commercial

Kneehill County was concerned about the aging ammonia chiller plant at its Ron Gorr Memorial Arena. The system was unreliable, costly to operate, and posed a significant safety risk to staff and visitors due to the potential for toxic ammonia leaks. The county turned to Trane Commercial for a solution to address these safety, cost, and reliability issues.

Trane implemented a solution by replacing the hazardous ammonia chiller with a new, ammonia-free Trane CGAM air-cooled chiller that uses a sustainable refrigerant. The new system was installed outdoors, freeing up indoor space and eliminating staff exposure to ammonia. The project resulted in a more than 20 percent reduction in electrical costs, lower maintenance expenses, and greatly enhanced safety and reliability for the arena.
