Kings County Courthouse - Customer Case Study

Kings County Courthouse worked with Trane Commercial to modernize a compound of outdated, windowless buildings that lacked civic appeal, had inefficient HVAC and utility systems, and created security and crowd-control issues. The county also needed to meet state mandates for new government buildings to achieve LEED certification.

Trane Commercial helped the project team evaluate mechanical options and implement a centralized chiller plant design featuring Trane water-cooled Series R helical rotary chillers and a CALMAC ice-based thermal energy storage system. The solution shifted cooling load to lower-cost nighttime hours, improved operational flexibility, and avoided oversized equipment, delivering a 26% reduction in energy costs, more than $100,000 in annual savings, and helping Kings County Courthouse achieve LEED Silver certification.
