Katy Medical Office Building cuts energy use 40% to 50% with Trane Commercial

The Katy Medical Office Building, a new medical complex near Houston, sought to develop a high-performance, LEED-certified building that would provide optimal indoor air quality and low operating costs. The owner, Jacob White Construction, and their mechanical contractor, J & S Mechanical, faced the challenge of designing a reliable mechanical system for ventilation effectiveness and sustainability. They partnered with Trane Commercial for a solution.

Trane Commercial implemented a solution featuring a 140-ton RTAC screw chiller for efficient temperature control and a Performance Climate Changer air handler to optimize indoor air quality. The system provided significant dehumidification and high levels of fresh air. As a result, the building achieved its LEED certification and realized energy savings of 40 to 50 percent compared to similar local buildings, while also providing a comfortable and healthy environment for tenants.
