A Trane Commercial Case Study
Kansas City Public Schools in Kansas City, Missouri faced widespread mechanical failures across roughly 39 district buildings, leaving many schools with poor comfort, unreliable heating and cooling, and in some cases inability to hold class. Unable to fund a full conventional upgrade, the district turned to Trane Commercial for help, seeking a way to restore building systems and improve conditions for students and staff.
Trane Commercial used a Trane Building Advantage energy performance guarantee agreement and a district-wide re-commissioning approach to repair, replace, and optimize equipment across 32 buildings over 18 months. Four technicians evaluated more than 3,200 pieces of equipment, including fans, VAV boxes, chilled water systems, and pumps, while also adding preventive maintenance templates to asset management software. The project improved comfort and humidity control, helped schools stay open during extreme weather, contributed to better test scores and accreditation progress, and secured $1.3 million in utility rebates for Kansas City Public Schools.
