A Trane Commercial Case Study
Institut Philippe-Pinel de Montréal, a 292-bed government-subsidized psychiatric facility in Montréal, needed to cut energy use, reduce environmental impact, improve comfort, and lower rising HVAC maintenance costs while meeting a seven-year payback requirement to qualify for government financing. Trane Commercial worked with the institute to identify energy conservation measures for aging heating, cooling, ventilation, and lighting systems.
Trane Commercial implemented upgrades including a new 1,000-ton cooling tower, optimized chiller sequencing, a new steam line and efficient boiler arrangement, lighting retrofits to 28 W T-8 lamps with electronic ballasts, and controls optimization supported by Trane Trace™ 700 analysis and a Trane PACT agreement. The project increased comfort, reduced maintenance costs by more than $8,800, and delivered more than $329,670 in first-year energy savings, while also meeting the institute’s payback target.
