Hopkins County Jail - Customer Case Study

Hopkins County Jail in Madisonville, Kentucky, needed to quickly address a serious safety issue when rust was found on the gas heat exchangers of its rooftop HVAC units, creating a risk of CO2 leaks in a facility housing more than 400 inmates. The jail also wanted to improve energy efficiency, system controls, and communications. Trane Commercial was selected to help deliver the needed HVAC and controls upgrades through a fast-tracked procurement process.

Trane Commercial replaced the aging equipment with 23 Trane Voyager rooftop units and upgraded the facility to a web-based Trane Tracer SC building automation system with Air-Fi wireless technology. The vendor also added monitoring and service support through Trane Building Performance and Active Monitoring. As a result, Hopkins County Jail cut procurement time by more than 60 days, completed installation in just two weeks, reduced downtime and maintenance costs, and improved energy savings and day-to-day system access.
