Hopital Cite de la Sante - Customer Case Study

Hopital Cité de la Santé in Laval, part of the larger CSSS Laval healthcare network, needed a new HVAC system for a hospital expansion. To cut energy use and greenhouse gas emissions while maintaining critical backup capability, the hospital specified a geothermal system with a boiler for redundancy. Trane Commercial was selected based on its geothermal experience, product performance, and prior relationship with the hospital.

Trane Commercial implemented a central geothermal system using two low-temperature Series R helical rotary water-cooled chillers with heat recovery, ground-loop geothermal exchange, and Tracer Summit building automation controls. The solution improved energy efficiency and centralized maintenance, helped lower energy costs and reduce emissions, and contributed points toward LEED certification. The system has operated reliably without failure, even in temperatures as low as -28°C, eliminating the need to use the backup system.
